Too Hot to Handle
Aka: The Fireworks
I know it’s been hot, but this is ridiculous. I thought it had just overheated so I went in the house while it cooled down, was drawn back out by the crackling sound, called 911 in fear of an explosion in the gas tank, managed to pull the hose close enough to get the flames under control before the water ran out and I had to start the generator again because we still have no power after the wind storm last week.
My neighbor, who came over to help me hose it down, joked that I should use it for lawn art, plant some flowers in the engine box. What do you think?

Good Lord!! You weren’t kidding! I agree with your neighbor. Plant some lovely things, though even without that, it is “Lawn Art”….!
I cannot believe you STILL have no power…! It’s like ‘the third world’…..
Happy Fourth To You & Joe, my dear.

Why is there colors in the grass? Are they permanent??

It’s the melted metal. Once it’s fully cooled off I think it can be lifted.

wow, massive meltdown.
some tall red and yellow flowers to be a permanent flame? a smoke tree?
lawn art can be pretty.

[…] 5. My very first 911 call went something like this: My riding lawnmower is on fire! I’m afraid it might explode when the flames reach the gas tank! See what happened next HERE. […]

Not! It’s been a week! I hope the lawnmower fire is covered with my homeowners insurance.

Thank goodness you weren’t hurt; or anyone else.
I agree that it might make an interesting decoration for your yard. The story sure would stay alive as people asked about your planter.

oh, my goodness, colleen. i thought about you off and on last week while we were in Whistler, BC hearing reports of power outages continuing and hoped you guys were not affected. i cannot imagine dealing with the heat and having no power, too. glad you have the generator and hope fans were available and working at night. i speak in past tense. hope this is over now. as far as the lawnmower – that could have ended badly so i am so happy you were not on it, injured, and that no explosion occurred. what a week you have had.

OK, I’m still not sure how it caught on fire…I’m interested because I don’t want to be on mine should it happen!

holy cow!!! I’m glad you’re ok!

Leo, my mechanic neighbor who came over and helped me put it out said mice could have goten in the engne and made it over heat or an electircal wire could have sparked. We don’t exactly know because ir went to far to investigate.
