13: Read My Lips
1. “At the heart of our ad-saturated democratic process is a moral paradox. Politicians raise and spend billions of dollars to convince us to trust them. But the fevered competition for votes virtually compels them to lie to us.” Dana Radcliffe
2. The red leaf lips photo posted here, which I got from the Recycled Art Foundation on Facebook, has made me look at leaves on the ground in a new way.
3. Studies show that extroverts lie more than introverts, that men lie eight times more than women about themselves and that women lie more to protect others. ~ More from How to Spot a Liar, a Ted Talk by Pamela Meyer, HERE.
4. “In the wake of Barack Obama’s decisive re-election, it’s time for him to vigorously address the most pressing issue of our time: climate disruption. Sandy is the mandate.” Kristen Sheeran and Jules Boykoff
5. A myth is a lie that tells the truth.
6. Is THIS true?
7. “Read my lips” is the iconic phrase used by George H. W. Bush to promise no new taxes and which likely cost him re-election because he did raise them. It’s also the name of movie, albums, songs and a lipstick.
8. In autumn my porch is like the deck of a ship sailing through a sea of fall foliage.
9. A smile is an instant face-lift.
10. Over the years some of my 337 Thirteen Thursday’s have been named The 13 Thursday Brainstorm, Another One Bites the Dust, The 13 Thursday Sermon, The whole 13 Thursday Shebang, I Can’t Believe I Wrote the Whole Thing, 13 Thursday Was Here, 13 O’Thursday and the13 ring Circus, but probably the strangest 13 of them all is 13 Thursday Sushi Belushi HERE.
11. Sign seen on Facebook: “We met for a reason. Either you’re a blessing or a lesson.” Frank Ocean
12. Passionate kissing burns 6.4 calories a minute. A Hershey’s kiss contains 26 calories, which takes five minutes of walking–or about four minutes of kissing–to burn off. More facts, including how Eskimos rub noses instead of shaking hands because the rest of the bodies are covered in warm clothing HERE.
13. Even in elementary school, I always liked the Indians more than the Pilgrims.

A GREAT T13, Colleen….! BTW: I went over to hear Pamela Meyer because you said it was Pamela MeyerS….so I thought it was a friend of mine….lol. But, there is no “S” on the end of your Pamela’s last name name….
A very interesting lecture…!
And about #13? Me Too!!!
Love that Lips picture, my dear!

I love the one about a smile being an instant face lift. People need to smile more 🙂

Read my lips: #6 is is totally true; the man has no soul.
My lips are smiling.

I has watched that Ted Talk a while back. A great 13 once again…applause! #8 is my fav because you still see the world through a child’s eyes.

What a neat photo of “lips.” And I’ll definitely check out that Ted site. Always great information.

Some very interesting points – and I loved number five! Is that a quote from someone, perchance? I’d love to have one of my characters say it in my WiP.
Happy TT! 🙂

I need more kissing in my life, then, to burn more calories! Also, I think you have done many more TTs than 137; I’m up to 268 and you were doing it long before me. Maybe that should be 337?

I said a myth is a lie that tells the truth but maybe I heard it somewhere or m parphrasing what I heard/learned.
I am at 337 TT’s. Thanks for pointing out the error, Country Dew. I fixed it.

# 2
I love the red lips. I too look at leaves to see what I see when looking at them. I may have to start taking pictures. I do the same with rocks.
#3
Interesting.
#4
I totally agree but I think no president is going to touch climate change with a ten foot pole. Sadly they all dance around it.
#6
I don’t doubt it.
#9
That’s for sure.
#11
Love it!
#13
Me too.
Good 13 Thursday Colleen.

I’m smiling, my face is lifted, and that picture is spectacular!!!

I really like #11!!
Actually I like them all pretty much.
I also like the red lip leaf!! At first I thought it was one of the penny candy ones!!??

Thanks so much for visiting my art blog! I like the way you approached the elections:) How you situated the leaf on your photo made me immediately think of lips actually, instead of a leaf! Well done -very clever:)

LOVED THIS! I esp liked #5. My T13 seems so trite now!
November 16th, 2012 4:44 pm
Ahh, love that photo. Do you know until I commented there were exactly 13 comments on this post? I almost didn’t write anything because I liked the symmetry of that. 🙂
November 16th, 2012 9:30 pm
Yes, I noticed that. But I’m happy to hear from you!
November 17th, 2012 9:40 am
Brilliant post! I posted some silly leaf photos this morning and Ron sent me this in response. Far more thought provoking than mine, but I love the lips.
November 17th, 2012 4:22 pm
After a quick glance of your red leaf, I thought it was a lip until further inspection. It’s funny how my mind could almost draw a face that went with that “lip”. As an introvert, I am glad to hear we don’t lie as much as extroverts. 🙂
