13: The Whole Truth
1. I like to call my friend Eydie, who rings me up at the Harvest Moon health food store, “Sweetie Eydie.”
2. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the word treat has eat and tea and tart right in it.
3. Lately I’ve been liking the word mosey and I want to do more of it.
4. I became interested in the word “outlandish” after hearing Terry Gross refer to Lady Ga Ga’s hats that way. I learned that outlandish comes from the Old English word outland, meaning located far from civilized areas, foreign, not native.
5. Thanksgiving Moon: Cornucopia moon / filling with light / Feast on the stars of November
6. As a poet, the moon is my favorite live model.
7. Because the Irish don’t pronounce “th,” saying ‘tanks’ for ‘thanks,’ I wonder if they call Thanksgiving “Tanksgiving” and this post “Tirteen Tursday.”
8. When my sons were kids I sometimes signed their Christmas presents “Santa Maria” just to keep things interesting.
9. My father was a cross between Santa Claus and Jackie Gleason in both appearance and temperament.
10. Recently I found an old journal from 1987, when Joe and I first got together. On one page I wrote a note to him that said: I love you cats and dogs.
11. My four-year old grandson Bryce playing zombie gingerbread man: “When a spooky part comes, don’t let the baby see it, okay?”
12. While others are making pies and stuffing, we’re rearranging furniture at my house, getting ready for the annual Sixteen Hands Studio Tour (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) with my son Josh and his guest artist. Read about last year’s Sixteen Hands Studio Tour HERE.
13. An update on Doug Thompson, Floyd blogger/journalist gone from critical to serious condition after a colliding with a cow while on his motorcycle, is posted on Fragments From Floyd HERE.

Gingerbread zombies?
This time of year, lots of people approach me just to tell me how much I look like Santa, ought to play Santa at the office party, etc, etc, etc. Grinchy me usually responds by asking if they’re saying that because I’m old, or because I’m fat. That ususally shut ’em up pretty good.

You are so right about daddy, depending on what age he was at a particular time.
I love the one about treat containing the words eat and tart. I love that stuff.
I think too that the word mosey is a great word that seems to have gone out of fashion. I like it a lot.
Happy Thanksgiving Colleen, Joe and family.

Thanks Janet. I fixed the link.
Kath, I was thinking of dad as more the jolly santa guy or the Ralph Kramden yeller. He did look like more like Jackie Gleason than Santa.

I bet that’s how they’re pronounced. French also loses the “th” and Irish in Newfoundland means no “th” there either according to the Dictionary of Newfoundland English.
Good Lord, he collided with a cow? That’s pretty extensive injuries. I suppose the angle makes a big difference and just how you land.

Gingerbread zombies! Wow. Love that he doesn’t want the baby to see.
Glad to hear Doug Thompson is doing better. What a freak accident.

Yes, I took that photo. It’s a glass blown ornament hanging at a girlfriend’s house and made by her son.
