Defeat
A discontented fear
has landed in my gut
like a bug lured by light
that bangs against a lamp shade
and buzzes as it burns
It struggles in fits
until it wears itself out
and forgets why it came in the house

i guess it is good when the fear forgets why it is there…maybe it will now go away and leave you alone…i like ho you use a bug to light in this…as it def fits with those fears…

Fear is like a bothersome bug… Glad it didn’t take over.

Hopefully that fear will die out soon too. Well written and it’s nice to meet you = )

the disconnected fears are the worst cause we can’t really grasp them..i like the images you use..and so good when the fear disappears as mysterious as it came

Fear feels like that to me…’bangs’ around, ‘burns’, ‘struggles in fits’ and finally ‘wears itself out’…ruminations to a ‘T’. Well done!

What a great simile! Our fears are often the result of emotions overpowering intelligence. Forgetting why it even came in the house in the first place… too true.

Nice description of the feeling of “butterflies in the stomach.”

Interesting beginning…but you change and finally have dominion over the pest…nice metaphor, if that’s what u mean. 🙂

The feeling I had by the end was more a swallowing of the fear and a numbness to what caused it over time, so not necessarily a good thing.

Gotcha! Thanks for clarification:) x

I didn’t elaborate that point so it can be interpreted different ways. Mostly it was a discomfort that I felt and watched as a witness. It was a good therapy at the moment. Thanks for the input!

Wow, very nice Colleen. So much said and felt in not too many words.
I try to shoo that gut feeling out the door as soon as it infiltrates. But I sure know what you’re talking about, and superbly poetically penned. kudos!
