13: The Latest Dirt is Mud
1. At Floydfest 12, we had three good weather days and one day of steady rain that made a lot of mud. The mud brought up stories of Woodstock and the question of whether today’s music festivals compare to that iconic festival. “If Woodstock was a president, it would be JFK,” I heard myself say in response to the argument that everyone thinks their generation is the best.
2. The music shows were fantastic at Floydfest but the real “music to my ears” was the sound of it not raining.
3. The worst sound I heard this week was a woman in the thrift shop who had a cell phone ring that sounded like an infant crying in distress.
4. In describing the beauty of the Floyd countryside, where I live, and scenes along The Blue Ridge Parkway, where the four-day festival was held, I just can’t bring myself to use the word bucolic because the word sounds too much like colic or a bulimic related disease.
5. When I saw that the Last Bison was playing at Floydfest this year, I had to wonder where Donna the Buffalo was.
6. Yesterday I saw three road crew guys in blaze orange vests picking wild berries on the Parkway.
7. With all the downpours and flash flooding we’ve been getting lately, I think TV meteorologists need to rethink their forecasting language and stop referring to a rainy forecast as “an opportunity for rain” or “the best chance of rain.”
8. The pictures posted here were taken at Floydfest, even the last one, my daughter-in-law getting a massage at the Healing Arts Tent, which I call “When Mama is happy, everyone is happy.”
9. Strangest search term that landed someone on my blog this week: My husband of almost 3 years broke up with me how do I get him back with spell?
10. I like to call Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros “Edward Sharpe and the Scissor Hands” in the same way I call Mozilla Firefox “Mozzarella Firefox.”
11. Did you ever wonder how they came up with the word Mozilla: On February 23, 1998, Netscape Communications Corporation created a project called Mozilla (after the original code name of the Netscape Navigator browser which — according to Pascal Finette — is a portmanteau of “Mosaic Killer”). – Wikipedia
12. Now I’m fascinated with the word “portmanteaus.” According to the wikiepedia, it is a combination of two or more words and their definitions, liked smog is a combination of smoke and fog and wikipedia is a combination of wiki (a web application that allows people to add, modify, or delete content in a collaboration with others) and encyclopedia.
13. Funny how of all the great Floydfest music video clips I posted on youtube (like the Lumineers, Edward Sharpe, Brandi Carlile and Old Crow Medicine Show, THIS mud video got far and above the most hits.
Read yesterday’s “Floydfest Island” is HERE. __________Thirteen Thursday

I enjoyed watching the Lumineers on the Colbert show this week. I guess Floydfest is far more happening place than I ever thought! What a beauty is the DIL!!

The people are smiling though, despite the mud. BTW, I like the muddy feet photo. I hope the NZ weather people don’t pick up those terms. Our people say we’re going to get drizzle or thunderstorms 🙂

Great pictures Colleen….All of you photos and Videos of Floydfest 12 are superb…! Like others have said, I get such a feeling of being right there!
I love that you said that about the word “Bucolic”…I’ve always thought that it was a very ugly word—for the very reasons you said—‘Colic’? Oh No! So it is one of those words that seems to have NO relation to it’s actual meaning. I don’t think I have ever used it before when writing anything….except for right now!

I’ve gone totally berserk on Thirteen for Thursday – it’s more like a book than a blog posting! And it’s all your fault for pointing me at it.
How do you find what search terms people use? I’m fascinated about the person whose husband left her – I wonder what happened and if she got him back?
Oh yes, and you are mentioned in number 1 of my 13.

omg I was visiting some folks on Sunday and at one point the guy’s cell phone went off, and the ring tone was this: @$$hole calling! There’s an @$$hole calling you! @$$hole calling!
I about peed my pants laughing. It was funny one time…but I doubt it would make me laugh for long!
ps. it was the guy’s cousin, and he loves him dearly!

Wow, that is some mud. But it looks like everyone was enjoying themselves.

My weekend (with its own Woodstock connection), was far more sedate & less muddy, but almost as much fun.

In #3 Why would anyone have a crying baby as a ring tone??? #9 is odd and did she really want to leave her husband of 3 years???
#13 is true, because they were so good!
Happy TT!
