13: Thursday’s Best Harvest
1. A first: I just conducted an interview for a Floyd Press story via Facebook messaging. Not only that, the Floyd person I was interviewing was answering my questions from a brewery in Charlotte NC!
2. A college textbook editor recently bought THIS photo after finding it here at loose leaf.
3. Favorite Facebook post this week was via my friend Tamra and was titled “The Loot.” It was a picture of a harvest of beans, basil, kale and calendula.
4. It just occurred to me as I was weeding in the garden next to the chicken coop that the chickens might think I was one of them, as I was bent over rooting and pecking around in the dirt, the way they do.
5. During the George Zimmerman trial we were told that Zimmeran felt his life was threatened and he shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense, but I kept wondering if Trayvon Martin felt threatened by being pursued by Zimmerman for no apparent reason, and so, was trying to defend himself in the fight that followed.
6. I had my first experience with 3D printing when my dentist created a computerized crown for me, and “printed” it out and put it in my mouth all in the same appointment. I remember him saying that he was going to print it and me not being able to wrap my brain around what he was saying.
7. Since then I’ve learned that food, clothing, prosthetics and full sized houses integrated with plumbing and electrical wiring can be printed with 3D printers. Body parts are next. See HERE.
8. More science fiction becoming fact: A pen that corrects your spelling? See it HERE.
9. I’m about to head up to Floydfest, the summer music festival up the road that I’ve been blogging about since 2005 and described in a 2007 post this way: My favorite part of the weekend festival – just six miles from my driveway on The Blue Ridge Parkway – is the cross section of people who attend it. Once on the sprawling grounds of open fields and wooded pathways, roles and differences tend to fall away, as people of all walks of life and ages speak the same language of “fun.”
10. My beans are in and I’ve been picking some nearly everyday, which brings to mind the saying ‘to bean or not to bean.’
11. Every time I eat beans from the garden I have the urge to shoot the bean part out of the pod the way my 5 year old grandson Bryce does.
12. This is the time of year when I think about how many better ways I could be spending my time than waiting for the salt to come out of the clogged-up shaker.
13. Flashback: Baby Bryce eats a garden bean HERE.

Love your gardening photos reminding me of when I used to do that! I was wondering if you ever did find out what to do about freckles (on reading your bio) and would like to know. Runner beans were my favourite to eat and grow since one doesn’t often see them to buy. Thank you for all your visits – I was hacked recently, hence my catchup here!

I don’t recall an answer to the question about freckles but I think the answer had something to do with a lemon.

6. wow hadn’t heard that started.

#10 immediately brought an image of a Loose Leaf Notes cartoon Colleen looking out the window toward the garden with a text bubble over your head: “to bean, or not to bean”

Neat you sold that tractor picture!
As for number 5, I am with you 100& on your thinking. We had a big discussion on it on our cousins Diane’s wall. You missed it.
Happy bean eating.

I just read on CNN that a juror in the George Zimmerman trial says she feels the man who killed Trayvon Martin “got away with murder.”
I think he did too.
She added, “But the law couldn’t prove it.” Unreal.

I don’t know where to begin with this one…..you have so many fascinating statements in this TT. First off I am happy for your first! And secondly I agree with you on #5! I want one of those pens! And I wish I was going to Floydfest with you! #13 ends it perfectly!

#4 made me smile. #6 makes me want to chat with a dentist aunt. I can’t ‘wrap my brain’ around it either.

Number 4 makes me laugh, too.
Number 12: Put a few grains of rice in the salt shaker.

#5 yes. This 13 is all over the map, like life, what a week, from the sublime to the ridiculous.
