A Lie That Tells the Truth
Poetry sets a record
It has a little black book
It keeps no pets
only secrets
It lies about its age
Poetry doesn’t do taxes
It watches PBS
It makes pledges to NPR
But never writes the check

poetry doesn’t do taxes, but last year, i got paid for a poem, so i did give a copy of the check to my accountant so i could deduct all my copyright and other such expenses. 🙂

oh i like much…most of all that poetry doesn’t pay taxes – ha – and that it keeps secrets and lies about its age – ha – she’s a rebellious old lady, ms. poetry – isn’t she.. smiles

Poetry never makes promises it can’t keep – and sometimes it keeps promises it never made.
And it’s not just poetry that doesn’t pay taxes; poets don’t – or at least not on their income form being poets.

This poem made me smile and then laugh outloud at the ending….never writing a check to NPR. I think you’re onto something here.

I adore this.

oh, for poetry that watches PBS instead of fox and sitcoms.

Poetry asks questions that don’t always have answers.
August 14th, 2013 3:27 pm
Very clever. Poetry often poses questions that others never imagined.
