The Girl Next Door
I’m the woman who walks to the mailbox everyday
whose life you imagine when you drive by and wave
The one collecting sticks for kindling as she walks
who stops composing poetry out loud when she sees you
The homebody in house clothes with dirt smudged at the hips
seen swinging her arms up over her head
because studies have shown that symphony conductors
live longer than the rest of us

Ah…. I would love to have you as a neighbour … and why not a conductor.. and I would try to get you to say your poetry out loud.

Not so different at all, you and I. Honest, hard working and a little bit quirky! Now you have me wondering about symphony conductors–do they live longer from the arm movements, or because they get to listen to beautiful music and are doing a job they love? Nice little capture you have written here!

Hahaha! Love that…. do they really live longer? I would bet in the least they never get flabby arms… OMG…. Beethoven’s Fifth could actually kill a fliibidy flobbidy flabbidy conductor!

I used to pity one who swung wildly, hair disheveled and sweating all over. And to think they can live longer! Bless them! Nicely Colleen!

I couldn’t find the actual study or the article on it but here is one source that says it’s the flapping arms that increase longevity. http://www.acupuncturenova.com/longevity-secret-of-orchestra-conductors
Maybe this is it: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1310&dat=19781207&id=rxRWAAAAIBAJ&sjid=B-IDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6545,2130220

being a homebody in comfortable house clothes is a marvelous way to be…swinging arms to the symphony of life I am guessing..creating poetry out loud..love the contented tone of this poem
