Liam’s Hat
Liam Pat wore his hat
all the way to the laundry mat
The only time he took it off
was when he went to the barber shop
Liam Pat wore his hat
seven days a week
The only time he took it off
was when he went to sleep
Liam Pat wore his hat
to make his older brother laugh
The only time he took it off
was when he took a bath
Liam Pat wore his hat
just for the fun of it
The only time he took it off
was when it didn’t fit!

if the hat fits……I’ve worn a scully since I was about one, still do, always will -and occasion I here, “oh, I didn’t recognize you without your hat”. This past May we buried my Dad along with his hat. As fun as your poem is, it gave me some nice above and beyond its call to duty thoughts and memories. Thank you.

feel to remove this link…..every child needs a hat, just ‘for the fun of it’ as you said -plain an simple…..I really really like this poem, it speaks to the child in ‘eye’. http://www.beyondplumcreek.com/shtufffs/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/we-all-shone-back-then.jpg

I had to look up scully hat to see what you meant. I call them something different but can’t remember the name now. I should say that Liam is not wearing “his” hat but his Opa’s Willy Wonker Halloween hat. The boys loved the hat and Liam made up a game “What’s inside my hat?” and hid things under it with Bryce’s help and then made every one guess.
The poem was written separate. Nursery rhymes for children I know being part of what I do. When I looked at Liam in the hat, I knew it was a fun match up.

I really enjoyed this; the humour, the rhythm, the rhyme, the clear love of a boy for his hat and a mother for her son. Delightful

fun read..good write. Puts me in mind of my kids when growing up..how they get attached to one particular item of clothing and want to wear it all the time.
