At the Box Office
Yesterday, while waiting for my Rapini Salsiccia takeout at Mickey G’s, I went in one of our town’s two dollar stores. (I can never get their names straight.) I don’t tend to buy a lot of Christmas paraphernalia, but I’m sucker for Christmas cards, and I’m always on the lookout for at least one new roll of shiny Christmas paper to make the under-the-tree gift presentation sparkle.
I also like to buy one or two new ornaments each year to add to my collection. I was thinking about a space on my Christmas tree and regretting that I didn’t buy the felted bird I was drawn to at last weekend’s Winterfest art and craft festival.
It was unlikely I would find any ornaments that would meet my homemade country style standard in the dollar store, but as a thrift shopper, I know that good finds can be gotten anywhere, and I had some time to kill. So, I went in to browse and was soon stopped in my tracks. The row of boxed glass ornaments that caught my eye wasn’t anything special, except for the fact that my image was broadcast repeatedly in them, like a row of department store TV’s all playing the same movie.
I ended up getting a Santa hat, but only because it was purple.

Nice to know that you are also enthralled by the yearly event collectively called Christmas. Namaste.

I was raised on it!

Maybe next year Josh can make some raw, manly, fingerpainted clay ornaments to sell during the tour. That would probably match your style (and ours) better than dollar store reflections.

I love Christmas trees/Solstice bushes/whatever, the lights and sparkle are just the thing for long winter nights. I’ve gotten lots of my decorations at the dollar store after Christmas, lovely stuff for pennies. And we live in Christmas tree country, I like supporting local farmers.

I still have a couple of 50’s ornaments from my childhood and many that I made with felt and sequins when I was in my 20’s (birds and stockings). I also have a couple made by folk artist Annie Moon that I treasure and some purchased at Winterfest and Angels in the Attic. I also have a flyboy gifted to me by A’Court. Clay is kind of heavy. I go for the light weight ones because my trees tend to be on the small side (in order to fit well in my humble home).

Next year…going back to unpacking all the old ornaments that I have not used for several years. Ready to view them again.
