Cold Feet
What happens to the poem
after the climax?
When you have to
re-create the romance?
When you have to gamble
the progress already made?
Invite strangers into
your innermost space?
What happens to the poem
that rolls over and goes to sleep?
The pretty face
that’s gone in the morning?
What about the poem
that’s over before it started?
The one that can’t live up
to its reputation?
The crush with cold feet?

Very intersting. I think many writers know how you feel.

Your poems are so lovely…even when they have all these problems!!

You put it in the drawer and try to rekindle it at a later date…or not.

Clever romantic metaphor AKA Loves’ Labours Lost.
Nonetheless, there are many muses in the sea…

most poems me thinks get warm feet again if we rub them carefully…smiles… ha.. cool metaphor here…

So much to think about here. Sometimes poems seem good for the time and then eventually one realizes they aren’t what one had initially seen. Poems, like people, can be fickle!

They pile up in my drawers 🙂 love the creativity you always bring.

There are some poems that are one-night stands and others with whom one can have a long-term relationship… or even rekindle the love after a while. I love your metaphors. Cold feet, oh, yes, so often…

I’m still trying to figure that out!

It’s interesting. I go back and reread my work. Stuff I thought was pretty good doesn’t strike me anymore, and some stuff I thought was mediocre seems okay. Maybe it depends on where you are in life, and how your day went… you know… like a relationship?
I enjoyed the metaphors.

If I could write the poem
with all the jumble of emotions
and improper words
that didn’t matter
because I knew
my reader understood
your poem made me think, which is the beauty of verse – thanks.

this reminds me of the feeling I get when I write something I think is amazing, but, then you start wondering what’s next… how you gonna top your new personal best… ugh
January 29th, 2014 12:55 pm
it gets a little rest you know…the rekindling of love, its an endless process …as are many a poem…put back in th book until we take it out and play with it once more….

superb questions. love the image of the chickens. question: how do they stay warm, do they have a coop?
January 29th, 2014 2:42 pm
It’s knowing when to walk away when you’ve sweated blood! Tough. Great writing.

The chickens have a straw bale coop where they roost and are protected from the elements. The real trick is getting them water because it freezes soon after the bowls are filled up.
