Sappy Happy
Happiness makes up in height for what it lacks in length. – Robert Frost
I’m suspicious of happy
because it rhymes with sappy
It often follows slap
and rarely lasts
It reminds me of jolly
which rhymes with folly
makes me think of giddy
which I think of as being
followed by up

that frost quote is cool… sometimes i’m a bit afraid as well to embrace happiness…but i will…and if it is only to jump high in the air once and then hit the ground, face in mud..it’s worth it…smiles

ha. some fun play…there are def some words i do not trust…and having had slaps follow happy…that can be a bit intimidating….and knowing it may not last happiness can be hard to feel…

This made me smile. I also liked your word play with this. You made me think of word associations & what we think of when we hear certain words. I am less ‘suspicious’ of HAPPY than I would be of GIDDY though. Smiles.

I feel the same way about happy! I think there are other words that embrace a better state of being! 😉

There is a writer from my country (Brazil) who often says he doesn’t know what to do with ‘happy’.
What a sweet, fun piece you have written here.

You have such an ability to create insight in so few words. Thank you once again for this!

You made me smile 🙂 Happiness is a state of mind and sometimes I am aware that it does not last a slap is waiting around the corner 🙂

Words should be fun. Like a horse we should teach them to bend. Giddy-up.

interesting how we become conditioned by life.

Love all the word play here, Colleen….
HAPPY…..some moments in time, in between unhappy and dreadfully unhappy….lol!

Cute word games here – sweet and funny piece! And yes, I often wonder … ‘merry’ always reminds me of Christmas, ‘upbeat’ is just ‘beat you up’ backwards, and ‘cheery’ has drinks connotations for me… oh, and why is ‘abbreviation’ such a long word?

“Sappy Happy” makes me happy; clever little ditty…
