Picture This
I’m turning over rain-soaked soil in the asparagus patch, digging up weeds with my hands and a shovel to the sound of buzzing bees that are busy pollinating blueberries and the smell of wild onions in the air. The apple trees are full of blossoms and the birds are singing songs of spring. Every now and then I pick up a wriggling worm and throw over the fence to the chickens. They squawk with delight and I think life is good.

The words and the images tease me. I want and need the activity of just this, right this very moment. Spring where art thou?

Well, I save and protect my worms…but then I have no chickens so am not torn by loyalties. Glad spring is finally up there in the mountains.

I only threw over about half the worms I found, leaving the rest to do their job with the soil.

spring is such a magical wonderland! after our long, wet winters spring is a particularly welcomed event in the NW. i have not thought about the smell of wild onions in so long. they are not a part of our gardening here, but i have so many memories of them in the south. (memories of myself as a child chewing on “sour grass,” too!) thanks for the prompt.

Nights here are still just barely above freezing, though the days are getting up into the 50s. There’s rumor of Spring soon, I hear.
