They’re not nibbled on, even though the title implies that. This is the way they come into bloom. They grow their long petals out slowly and sometimes one at a time.

Wickedly Weird, I ‘likes’ them, every single one. Though to my way of seeing, perhaps they’re missing teeth -often my aesthetic leans or perhaps ‘bent’ is better word, to that which is beautifully ugly’.
