FCHS Graduation Favorites
It was an overflow crowd at the high school gymnasium for FloydCountyHigh School’s Class of 2014 Graduation Ceremonies.
Principal Tony Deilber welcomed wall-to-wall attendees and addressed seniors, saying, “You have proven your ability to learn … I know you’ll make a great mark on the world.”
Class President Lindsey Janney began her speech from the stage by taking a selfie picture against the backdrop of her class. Valedictorian Natasha Shannon challenged her classmates to “be a force for change,” and salutatorian Stefnie Cerny spoke with emotion about the bonds shared between classmates.
“You’ve excelled academically, set records as individuals and teams, produced great artwork and music,” Superintendent Kevin Harris told the graduating students. He encouraged them to be leaders, saying, “Help guide and lead this world in the right direction.”
Harris also spoke about seeing acts of kindness and witnessing the students act as good role models. “You guys have been really good people. You’ve been a class with class,” he said.

I just attended my Granddaughters high school graduation. It gave me a sense of hope listening to the young people talk in positive ways about their futures. I can only hope that they have the courage to fight for the right values and they don’t get sucked up into the culture of greed that is consuming our country. Our young poeple are our future … Your pictures and comments are wondeful and uplifting.

As you know I attended our Nephew Matthew’s graduation and I really must confess how emotional I get at the speeches. They are at their peak in the new chapter of their lives. I bet it was fun and heartfelt to attend.
