The Road Trip
Poetry drives a red sports car
It takes the scenic route
It travels light with the top down
and rarely gives free rides
Poetry drives a hard bargain
It won’t settle for middle-of-the-road
It doesn’t take shortcuts
but beats the traffic
It makes up for lost time

This piece is tight and the truth. I love it!
First time here at your blog. I’m from Massachusetts too, though thoroughly west coast for over two decades now. Happy to have you in my lexicon now thanks to dVerse.

ha. i dunno…i think poetry is dangerous enough to give free rides on occassion…smiles. i agree though poetry is not for the middle of the road…

You’re right Brian! I woke up with this poem and am still tweaking it. I’m going to change that to “rarely” gives free rides. I’ve had a few in my time.

What a wonderful definition! I love “poetry won’t settle for middle-of-the-road”.

Hard to tell who drives who -the driving force. The best journeys are the ones that drive themselves, just put it to metal and let’r rip.

Fun bit of imagery! Who doesn’t want to drive a red sports car?
June 30th, 2014 12:17 am
yes, poetry indeed can have a bumpy ride !

Poetry can also be the burning
wreck of beaten up insurance frauds
the angry pyre of a desperation
felt by hungry men
Poetry is life
Love your positive thoughts though

And the destination can be anywhere on the horizon. Nothing like an open road!

I love this! Poetry as a red sports car, with the top down, traveling fast. Brilliant!
June 30th, 2014 2:49 pm
I can imagine poetry looking good on a red sports car!
June 30th, 2014 7:20 pm
I love this line:
“Poetry is a red sports car”-so we are bit wild!
Yes, there is no middle road, for us-poet!
Okay, maybe sometimes ;D

Poetry sure drives a hard bargain. It is not smooth sailing all the time. Nicely Colleen!
