13: Summer is in Full Swing
1. I’ve started calling our two chicken runs the “Alpha” and “Delta lot” after the parking lots at Floydfest, which starts today!
2. See why Ron’s “13 Things I’ve Forgotten” was my favorite 13 Thursday post last week and why I was moving my mouse back and forth in a twiddling my thumbs sort of way HERE.
3. Invite seen on Facebook: I would like to invite everyone here to today. Welcome. You have arrived now make to very best of it.
4. My summary from a conversation with my Libertarian nephew on government reform: Kind of like fixing up an old broken down house when it’s easier to start over and build it new, or wait until the winds of climate change knock it over.
5. I love words like ramshackle and rigmarole.
6. And I loved it when our dreadlocked emcee of this year’s Firefly Fling donned a Mr. Rogers sweater and channeled his words via an electronic talkbox by way of sign language. Watch HERE.
7. In a July 2009 13 Thursday I wrote that jalopy and brouhaha were my current favorite words.
8. I’m proud of how Floyd residents are heading off the natural gas company that is proposing to come through Floyd and other places in Southwest Virginia by speaking out to their representatives and organizing a campaign against it. We fought off another such proposal around 2000. A recent public hearing was covered by one of our local TV news channels. Listen HERE or even better HERE.
9. Signs that summer is in full swing: waking up with mosquito bites that you didn’t know you had and having to forge a path through weeds and plants to get to the food growing in your garden.
10. My idea of fun is having a dream to interpret, a theme to unravel or a metaphor to craft.
11. “Success is hitting that ten ring, but mastery is knowing it means nothing if you can’t do it again and again.” Sarah Lewis/Ted talk
12. I guess I’ve done my job as a grandmother. When Bryce was shooting his Nerf gun yesterday, I heard him say, “Boomshakalaka!”
13. How to fill 37 water balloons in 20 seconds HERE.

My Beloved Sandra keeps talking about retirement locations & I keep steering her toward Floyd. Floydfest is yet another reason.
And thanks for the shout out on last week’s list (I’m not playing this week.)
Ramshackle. Rigamarole. Boomshakalaka.
Out.

Great photos. Great favorite words. Great thoughts and great links. I’m going to check out how to fill water balloons quickly–that’s something a mom with sons needs to know. Thanks.

I hope the Floyd folks are successful; I’ve been involved in similar issues in my part of the world. Always difficult, very enlightening. I wish you much luck.
