Read All About It: Hirshhorn Headlines and Highlights
Even the escalators seem like part of the art installations at the Hirshhorn Art Museum in D.C.
Is that a real bathroom sign or part of the exhibit?
Hey, where can I get linoleum like that?
I love larger than life Alice in Wonderland installations that stretch the boundaries of reality.
According to exhibiting artist Barbara Kruger, Belief + Doubt = Sanity.
After enjoying this exhibit in the lower level of the Hirshhorn Museum and buying a Kruger postcard that said “Don’t Be a Jerk,” we went upstairs and saw the Speculative Forms exhibit. We also spent time in the Hirshhorn’s renowned Sculpture Garden and took pictures for our blogger friend Naomi at Here in the Hills. Naomi is the daughter of Joseph Hirshhorn, who donated his large collection of art to the Smithsonian in 1966 and was instrumental in the founding of the Hirshhorn. – Hirshhorn Highlights Part II is HERE.

How cool that you know one of the founder’s children. I love that museum and need to visit it again!

That looks like a fascinating exhibit. It is many years since I have been to the Museum….Much has changed over the years, but the basic collection is still pretty much the same, with many acquisitions added as the years have gone by. When my father died in 1981, he donated another 6000 pieces—-Sculpture, Paintings, Drawings, etc…..So, all together, he donated 12,000 pieces of Art. I have written a few posts about the Museum–particularly about the Opening in October 1974—(40 years ago!!!)…showing many photographs I took myself, at the opening….It’s all there in my Archives…..
I look forward to more of your pictures, Colleen…..It’s always great to see photo’s taken by people like yourself, who visit the Museum in the present….!

I was able to google “here in the hills and hirshhorn opening and found the link, Naomi: http://sitteninthehills64.blogspot.com/2010/11/hirshhorn-opening-1974.html
They must change it around a lot because I didn’t see any of the sculpture that you posted. Maybe we missed a section of the garden.

I like the “give your brain” quote! ☺

I love the idea of giving your brain as much attention as your hair! What a concept!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. The last time I was at the Hirschorn was for the Aie Wei Wei exhibit. Did you get to that one?
This last trip to DC with a friend was just to the Sackler-Freer only. About all you can do in a day coming in after rush hour and leaving before.

An Aie Wei Wei exhibit is on my bucket list! I hope he comes again soon.
