Fort Revere Graffiti

I didn’t have a chance to see the Lego sculpture show in Faneuil Marketplace in Boston while recently visiting my family in Hull (22 miles south of Boston), but I did see some striking graffiti art in the old forts by the house I grew up in Hull Village. It was like taking in a private art installation as well as a Twilight Zone journey into the past, both historical and personal. The forts were one of my, my eight siblings and all of our friends favorite places to play and make mischief when we were growing up.

the graffitti is interesting in a way, however I view it as also destructive, disrespectable damaging the historical structures….just saying….

The old fort is visited by the modern graffiti artists – the history of the fort indicates that it is now abandoned, but hardly useless. Modern art allows the structures to be re-purposed as a canvas for an outdoor gallery. And very cool!

Good point, Kathe, I guess I have been de-sensitized having grown up with the forts and knowing that there has been graffiti there since at least more than 50 years. Someone does keep the outside walls mostly clear from it as you can see from the last picture.

Graffiti artists usually always work in the shadows, don’t they?

Love these pictures! Whenever I travel, I enjoy finding the grafitti and photographing it as well.
I know it’s vandalism, but I do like it!

Oh my goodness! I never knew there were forts in Hull! I lived (as a child) in nearby Hingham for many years. 🙂
