A Phoenix Battle of the Bands winner, Bigmama Joy made it to the Floydfest’s pre-festival Showdown Throwdown. She was the only Floyd performer of 4 acts competing in the final battle of local bands, which took place at the Floydfest site Saturday June 20th.   On back-up are others from Floyd: Tree Gigante and Emily Williamson.  FM Turner on bass is from Blacksburg.

This is the deserving Roanoke band that won the final Battle of the Bands at Floydfest’s inaugural Showdown Throwdown and will be opening for Emmylou Harris at Floydfest 2015 Fire on the Mountain.

Being from Floyd, Bigmama had a sizeable following of Floydian support. Her daughter Josie, familiar and comfortable with the stage, and Josie’s friends made for some fun entertainment.  Although she didn’t win first place, taking a proud second, many of us think of the unique singer songwriter as a Floyd gem.
