It’s that time of year again. We’ll not really. There are fires and droughts in California, record breaking heat in the Southwest and other severe weather events consistently being reported. Here in Virginia, the seasonal wildflowers and fruits are almost a month early. There was a time when we picked apples in October. Our latest yearly picking hike happened on one of the last days of August.
The apples were the best they have been in years. We went around sampling fruit off the different tree varieties like wine tasters sampling wine.
We met some hikers, some who had also discovered our abandoned orchard off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and others who stumbled upon it.
First we had to chase off some cows. And then we stopped to watch the deer.
It was too late in the day for butterflies but the bees were not giving up on thistle.
Thistle blossoms remind me of pineapple and red apples remind me of Sleeping Beauty.
We missed Bryce and Liam’s help picking this year. Check out this post from last year’s hike titled The Post in which Bryce Sees the Bluebird of Happiness and Liam is Brave with Cows HERE.
On the drive home (about 7 miles), we had to pull over to capture this glorious scene of Buffalo Mountain. I can’t believe we live here.

Looks like a fine outing! I don’t like climate change though… NASA and the military are preparing for weather change but everyone else wants to ignore it. I should probably buy a generator and plant some more trees, at least.
