The 13 Go Around

1. The more I don’t go anywhere, the more I buy clothes at the thrift shop that I have nowhere to wear them to. The more clothes I acquire, the more I wear the same thing (house clothes) everyday.
2. Joe and I walked through the Blue Ridge Parkway bush on Saturday to check out our favorite abandoned apple orchard. The apples are abundant but we worried about ticks the whole time. I had just ordered and received some tick repellent to spray on shoes and clothes but couldn’t bring myself to deal with it (toxic) yet. “It reminds me of how I carried reusable shopping bags in my car for years before I got in the habit of using them,” I said to Joe.
3. Hot date: tick checks.
4. Facebook comment on my status update titled In My world a BF is a Butterfly: If BF means butterfly then LOL means lots of love!
5. I haven’t been this excited about a singer/songwriter since I first heard Jack Johnson. I heard a review of her album on Fresh Air and immediately said, “That’s music I’d pay for.” Listen to Courtney Burnette sing Dead Fox HERE.
6. Political campaigns are like soap operas that you don’t have to watch everyday to keep up with. I didn’t feel the need to subject myself to the Republican presidential candidate debates, so I checked out reviews after the fact, like Watch the Republican Debate in Less Than 3 Minutes and 8 Takeaways from the Republican Debate. Between those and the nightly news reports, I probably know more than I want to.
7. Some dictionary definitions of “trump” – Any playing card of another suit. To take a trick with a trump. Trump up: to devise deceitfully or dishonestly, as an accusation.
8. THIS little boy’s mission made me smile and cry at the same time and made think about how I like to keep at least one toy in my pocketbook because it makes me feel more prepared.
9. That video was followed by another Steve Hartman On the Road tearjerker that made me choke up even more. Watch how THIS little boy found a $20 bill and paid it forward.
10. Posted by a friend on Facebook: I can’t help it. I’m an ocean in a paper cup.
11. “If someone has a view that human beings are only motivated by money then they’re going to have a pretty blinkered view of how humans behave and also a fairly sad life, in my view.” – Founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales on NPR’s Why We Collaborate.
12. Liam (4): When I have a job I’m going to keep people safe and protect them. I’m going to work the day shift.
13. And this is the way we roll.

One of my (coarser) friends, spying a babe in the general store the other day, said: “Oh man, I’d like to check her for ticks!”

#1 It’s just a sign of age and not a bad thing.
#2 Some essential oils that will help keep ticks away are eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, lemongrass oil and also melaleuca oil (also known as tea tree oil). There are probably others that’ll work too.
#3 Who would have thought?
#4 LOL to you.
#5 —
#6 They make me think I’m watching a Saturday Night Live skit.
#7 Look up clown in the dictionary. Trump’s picture will be right there.
#8 I loved seeing that on the news.
#9 I admire Steve Hartman’s “On the Road.”
#10 My cup runneth over.
# 11 LOL (lots of love) for those ideas.
#12 That’s such a good thought Liam.
#13 Way to go Joe.

Number six — our Gov is among those running. We do NOT want him in the WH. That last definition for number seven seems quite apropos, considering the muck that comes out of Trump’s mouth. BTW, did you see/hear about the latest report that says butterflies are on the verge of extinction? 🙁

I recently found a citronella band that worked well to keep the bugs away. You wore it on your wrist. Only good for one time, but it worked, and I am not outside enough to have to purchase many. Not sure it would keep away ticks, though.
