The Not So Sick Day
My first thought when I woke up this Monday morning was ‘if I had a real job, I’d be calling in sick.’ I’m not really sick but am in recovery from an extra full fun weekend that included a PFLAG house party, dancing to rock and roll at Dogtown, fellowship and feasting at the Ceremonial Day of Gratitude at the local Chinese Medicine Clinic, having the grandkids over and reading their homemade books about zombies.
There was also a death that has stretched at my heart and my sister who is sick is on my mind. The photos to process and stories to write have piled up, but I can only wait out the rest and hope to put one foot in front of the other soon. I keep going back to Katie Wells’ ceremonial dance (one of the highlights of the weekend), which started with her engulfed in a cloak and ended with the revelation of her light spirit. From dark to light, seed to blossom and death to birth, I know the life cycle keeps spinning and that the joy of creativity will come around again.
– Watch the videos of Katie’s masterful improvisation dance with Lobo Marino below and enjoy.
Katie currently facilitates Ecstatic Dance at Floyd’s Blue Ridge Clinic for Chinese Medicine (in the great hall where she is dancing here) the first Sunday of the month.
HERE is a story I did on Katie for the local paper in 2012. A dance clip I took of Katie performing in gold body paint at Oddfella’s One Stoplight Variety Show is HERE and her snake dancing (with/on a chair) at a Jacksonville Center art opening is HERE. Fantastic all. More to come …

That toddler boy across the room was mesmerized by her performance!

It was a pleasure to spend time in sacred space with community yesterday at the Chinese Medical Clinic in Floyd. Although the clinic is out away from town, it’s beautiful and a treat to go there. I really enjoyed just being there and to have dancing and a sacred dance by Katie Wells was even more wonderful and luscious! I only wish I could say Beam Me UP to get there earlier from Roanoke. My spirit is always refreshed from times like yesterday so thanks and gratitude to all who made it happen and to Mara Robbins for her deep sharing yesterday. I see more amazing and deeply healing things coming from Mara Robbins for all her days and she will be a healer of worlds.

Hello, what a wonderful perfomance. I wish I could dance, I have two left feet, lol! I am so sorry about your loss and I will keep your sister in my prayers.
Happy Monday, enjoy your new week ahead!

Best thoughts being sent your way for your sister and for you . I understand the occasional urge to call in sick from life in general. I’m glad you have creative friends like that beautiful dancer … They’ll do way more to bring back your creative mojo than my feeble wishes ( but they are the best I can do with what I’ve got).

I like the dancing of Katie Wells in gold the best.
I wanted to call in sick today, myself. But I didn’t and now Monday is behind me.

Your daughter is a very talented dancer!

Not my daughter! Katie is a friend/part of the Floyd community and a dancer that I much appreciate.

The first dance looks very much like the Whirling Dervish dances in Turkey and Egypt, only the music is better for at least my ears ! The second dance looks also very oriental ! She dances very well !
