Imagine That
Kings, portals, crowns and zombies.
Aliens, quicksand, good guys and bad are all the elements of good story drama.
He draws the scenes and dictates the action, and I write the words. Then we read “the book” to others.
The tradition started back when I worked in day care in the ‘70s and I’ve been helping children make books ever since.
Science has shown that story telling and dramatic play build brain networks in young children like no other activity.
And the benefits go both ways. I’m as nourished by looking at kid’s art as I am watching a sunset, even if there is ninjas and blood.

I agree … childhood art is everything to the imagination. The pictures are delightful … and the “portal” in particular is waiting for its story to unfold.

Our daughters degree is in Early Childhood Ed and she owned and ran a daycare for years … This all sounds so familiar. Now she too is doing this same kind of thing with her own lucky grands.
Lots of creativity here with yours. Gotta tell you that I’m sure the quicksand one would give me nightmares though ;))!

You are a very good conscientious teacher, am sure you build many good citizens of the future.
I used to make stories for my niece and nephew when they are young. However, when they asked my sister to read for them, she wants also to finish her book. So she opened the book and started to tell a story, then suddenly she said “they are going through a very very long tunnel, so the two kids must sleep now. They will be awake again when they reach the other side of the tunnel”. So the 2 kids slept, and my sister was able to continue reading her book. To me that was the most resourceful strategy for kids to sleep, and she to continue reading. LOL.
