More Than a Ransom Note
A few kidnapped words
are holding me hostage
My body is a room
a poem must escape from
But words are suspect
like clues left unheard
And the longer they wait
to make their break
the less recognizable
sense they make

…sounds like a message in a dream state…
utterances from media, friends, hearsay, the power of the air,
and never enough time to formulate these words into a statement

I wasn’t feeling good, had no energy, but wanted to write a poem, dredge it up from within, because I always feel better when I do. When I feel uninspired I often look within, take my psychic blood pressure through poetry, and write about what it feels like not to write. I was happy for these few scraps that expressed that.
ALSO I had just seen the movie Room, which I highly recommend. Besides the story, there is so much in it about perspective and questioning reality that comes from the boy living in a 10 x 10 room with his mother for his whole life (5 years) and then being introduced to the big world.

Maybe we will rent Room tonight on TV. I hate giving Comcast any more money, but it is not playing near here. Poetry is something like undigested food for me and I have to let it out. But I think others see it for what it is.

I love “My body is a room a poem must escape from”. That is brilliant!

The poem is so excellent… but put together with the title it becomes brilliant.

I can so relate to this Colleen!

Ha! Yes sometimes I feel day to day duties and time itself hold my words ransom, and they’re barely recognizable once I manage to free them.
