Old School
The above is just one of Floyd’s one room schoolhouses. It’s dated circa 1880. Across the street from it is the old county cannery. It’s still standing.

there’s a grace and a charm about these old buildings, isnt there. Nothing fancy, a roof, windows, and clapboards.
Those 6-over-6 school house windows look huge, or maybe it’s because the building is tiny, but they must have let in a vast amount of light.
I almost went to a one room school house, but the year before I was supposed to go they closed it down. Damn.

This one’s been renovated. We had a portable kindergarten where I lived. It moved around in different places where ever they could make space for the growing generation of baby boomers.

There were many one-room schoolhouses along the coast. Some communities actually helped families relocate to bring in enough kids to get a school and teacher from the government. – Margy
