Placeholder Poem
It’s a lament
for a lack of inspiration
that doesn’t have a beginning
or a meaningful ending
It’s a an exercise in practice
because a poet should have a poem
should have a good pick-up line
that’s more than a bluff
in sickness and in health
A poet needs a back-up poem ready
like a ticket stuffed in a pocket
that can be scribbled on
whenever the mood strikes
that can hold my place in line

How true! I feel we are constantly tucking away mental notes, thinking this could be part of a poem.

What a great description of the poet’s process….I often keep paper and pen with me as lines float in and out of my consciousness….
‘because a poet should have a poem
should have a good pick-up line’

Perhaps because my daughter has been playing the music to “Hamilton” a Broadway musical nonstop lately – but I read this in the rhythm of a rap! And it rocked!
