Floyd County Roadside Attractions
On my way home from covering the 2nd annual Replenish Festival, a faith-based music festival in Floyd, I passed Wildwood Farms General Store, home to one of the largest daylily farms in the state that just happens to also be in Floyd.
The lilies were all in bloom! I pulled over and walked through in wonderment of the more than 600 varieties, while smiling and thinking to myself, “Ah, now this is my kind of church.”
Truly, it was like heaven on earth, beauty upon beauty. And just when I thought I found my favorite, another favorite would appear.
You can pick your own easy-care perennial favorite and have it dug up, or arranged for it to be mailed.
It was Saturday evening and the General Store was packed for the store’s bluegrass music night, but I was there for the lilies.
The lowering sun cast an enchanting glow and I had the gardens almost to myself. They were primarily in the front of the store but others were tucked all over the property.
Closer to home I passed the above. One of my favorite old homes that I’ve been photographing for years, especially in July when the naturalized lilies line the road and give testament to resiliency and rebirth.
Look for more on Wildwood Farms’ lilies in this week’s Floyd Press and a story and photo spread on Replenish Festival. HERE is the coverage from last year.

Love those lilies, but I would have enjoyed the bluegrass festival too. Did not know there were so many colors of daylilies — they really are beautiful.
