Friday at Floydfest is all about the Music
It was my first time seeing Shakey Graves, on a recommendation from my son Josh. He played without his band, sitting on a red suitcase that had a foot drum fitted in it and told stories of growing up and how he got his band name. It was inspired by a tripped out guy that told him and his friends to “beware of spooky wagons,” he told the crowd.
He took questions from the audience and at one point a young boy asked him if he had any kids, “No, did my girlfriend send you?” he answered.
Well who doesn’t know by now that the Hip Abduction is my current favorite band? I saw them in the spring The Phoenix and now I’m like a groupie. I call the music they play psychedelic reggae, but they’re listed on the program as mixing dub-reggae bass lines and funky afro-beat percussion for their tropically influenced high energy performances.
I think all the energy I spent dancing was the reason I wasn’t able to stay up late enough to see Nahko and the Medicine People, much to the disappointment of my people who stayed for it.
I was thrilled when the played my request. Yes, I shouted out “Sexual Healing.”
This is a group selfie with Dale and the ZDubs at Hill Holler Stage.
Watch this video clip of the band shaking it up and tearing it down.
This happened. But not very much or very long.
That’s Rich Robertson, formerly of The Black Crowes and brother of Chris Robinson, who played on the same stage last year.
I caught a few songs from Mason Via and enjoyed his talent at the Workshop Porch, my favorite Floydfest venue.
We got some dancing reinforcements just in time for the Wood Brothers on the main stage at dusk.
Check them out!
Listen, there was so much more and there’s so much more to come.
These are just a few of the Friday’s highlights and all I could muster up before day 3.

It looks like great fun.
I see you have the same improvised plastic bags for wet weather viewing that we do, although I suspect we use them more in England.
