Celebrating July 4th on July 8th
-The following first appeared in the July 16, 2016 issue of The Floyd Press with a larger spread of photos.
Rain threatened but didn’t stop the July 4th Celebration that was rescheduled from the 4th to the 8th due to stormy weather.
Although the crowd wasn’t as large as last year, those who did attend enjoyed a roster of musical performances, door prizes, cotton candy and funnel cakes before the night’s main feature, the fireworks display.
The celebration took place from 6 pm to 9 pm in the Floyd County High School parking lot and surrounding grassy areas.
A group of citizens, including some young people, read from parts of the Declaration of Independence in the high school gym foyer.
Cotton candy at the Floyd Democrats booth was made in patriotic colors of red (pink) and blue.
Some took shelter under trees, umbrellas and tents when it started to sprinkle.
The fireworks appeared around nine and could be viewed over the high school gym building.
Judging from cheers and applause, the fiery display did not disappoint, especially the grand finale.

Nice little “our town” moment.

Glad the sprinkles didn’t stop the fireworks. Yummy looking cotton candy but a thankless job in hot weather.
