Transition
Hanging in limbo
Pupa in cocoon
Morning alarm
rocks the cradle
too soon
Tension is a river
dammed not to flow
keeping me sleepless
in an amniotic hold
But I’m destined to be born
Torn like a snagged twig
I’m born to exhale
and act from free will
I will be delivered
Slapped awake by morning light
Uncertain but unfurled
for the next new stage of life

“Slapped awake by morning light” ha our awakening sometimes needs those slaps & the life’s next new stage begins…great words…

imaginative imagery that conjures the shock of waking life – reminds me of thread from the silkworm cocoon and how easily broken it is when the rhythm is disjointed

“Tension is a river
dammed not to flow
keeping me sleepless
in an amniotic hold”
especially love these lines, colleen.

Life presents us with many transitions – I like the way you have shown them to be part of a process.

I like how you weave together a story of nature’s transformation with a human one from sleeping to waking here — yes, sometimes I want to remain in the still, dreaming state too….Thanks for sharing.

But I’m destined to be born
Torn like a snagged twig
I’m born to exhale
and act from free will
I like this line because I can seem to relate from it.
