Loose Leaf Notes

1. I’ve taken to wearing cat ears during the Halloween season and yesterday Joe called me the Cat’s Meow.

2. I got my fortune read at the Floyd Center for the Arts’ Halloween Kidsfest on Sunday.  She said, “I see you going on an African Safari, and you bring your fortune teller a picture of a giraffe when you get back.”

3. The best part of the above picture is that you can see me in the shadow with my cat ears on!

4. I found my first four leaf clover in a book that I bought for 25 cents at a library book sale.

5. The name of the book was “What’s in a Name?”

6. I opened the cover / a fortune cookie cracked / how sweet was the news / the destined chance / Faintly green / still spending its luck / a lottery shamrock / crisply pressed / Like a thousand dollar bill / of whimsical windfall / rich with what is possible / and suspending all doubt … Read the whole poem HERE.

7. Google sounds too much like giggle.

8. At the memorial celebration for Ruth Bason, held at the Floyd Eco-Village, we changed the words to John Denver’s song and sang it like a Floyd anthem… There was light talk of renovating the “big house” at Travianna into a historic hippie landmark, and someone commented that the EcoVillage wouldn’t exist without Ruth (its founders both lived there for a time).  A super 8 video of the early days that played to a soundtrack of the music of the time was shown.  Ruth’s meditation chair, in which she ultimately rose to practice her signature Tai Chi dance, was front and center. – More from Almost Heaven, Floyd County, Travianna HERE.

9. When I wear my cat ears, I think of my late friend A’Court (Ruth’s son), who wore tiger ears to his last art opening. See why HERE.
