I want a soft linen poem
without the bog of heavy weight
in a color I would wear everyday
But the more clothes I have
the less places I go
and my poems are like house clothes
that nobody sees

I often feel this way – but even one reader makes a difference.
Apt metaphor.

Oh I resonate with this poem. I have going out clothes but rarely go out so rarely wear them. My house clothes are drab and everyday. LOVE the way you liken them to your poems which nobody sees.

Interesting and I am certain that it resonates with most of us.

I think you are right…you have said it so well. But, I guess, in the end the most important thing is that we see ourselves in our words!

No shit! I have a closet of 15+ or minus dress shirts. 4 suits, one, I suppose I will be buried in.. will be dry cleaned.
But the love we shared will be seen, regardless of its blindness.
Thanks for your art… making me think!

Like this.. resonates with me, I think I voiced a similar sentiment about my poem just sheltering under stronger, better poems that dare to find the light. House clothes.. great metaphor here.

House clothes … an interesting term, and even more interesting when compared to poetry. I like the analogy!

Yes, I love being in my house clothes, raggedy and worn. And there are some poems that I’ve written strictly for my view. I enjoyed this and can relate to it. Very clever analogy.

Sometimes the house clothes are the most comfortable, much like our words. I have poems that I have written that I keep just for me. They may never make it out of the house and I am comfortable about that decision.

That’s not true Colleen. Have had good ones coming from you – colorful ones, yes!

Great metaphor, al the same! (And hey, don’t we count? We see!)

Sometimes, when most in house clothes, we are visited by a stream of guests. I love the comparison to the poem. I think that the guest do not notice the possibility of the costumes.

I read them and love them, especially this one.
April 10th, 2017 4:17 pm
But I adore your poems especially this one!!❤️

But you know that part of the romance of being a poet is that we create in relative obscurity…we have our core followers, and that’s like an exclusive club, and they are the privileged ones, because they get to read us!

Great metaphor. The question to myself is, why don’t more people see (your, my, all of our) poems?

Linen can be a tricky fabric to work with … exquisite when the finished product is worn ~~ like your poem.

My house clothes rock…so I wear them outside too 😉

quietly elegant

I have felt this way. Your poetry is certainly not a house dress.
