Losing Ground
What used to stop me in my tracks
and threaten to sink me with its impact
now slips away discreetly at night
like Arctic icebergs breaking off
in someone else’s proverbial backyard
While true-north poets forget their lines
and oar-less boats turn with the tides
parts of me drift away
in a foreboding and foretold
chain of events
With so much spilled water
I don’t want to add tears
leave innocent children
at the deep end of the world
not able to touch bottom

Ove this. Please know I love many poems and articles and I’m just too lazy to write a comment. Chels

I think sometimes we only have so many tears. Sometimes we have to allow our feelings / tears drift away for self preservation. There is just SO much to mourn these days.

I know. It’s a sort of numbness that sets in…

This is powerful. I love those Arctic icebergs slipping away discreetly…….the oarless boats turning with the tide. Wonderfully written, Colleen.

…”at the deep end of the world, unable to touch bottom”. Powerfully descriptive. Great write.

What a poignant piece so perfectly crafted and the end filled me with tears I dare not shed.

How I (and I am sure do so many others) agree with you. We humans appear to have such a dearth of charity both for our own and for the rest of the living things on this planet…as well as the planet itself which is being trashed. We must keep spreading the message.

Yes. Foreboding. And yet, we try to embrace it, to live fully and not under tears.

I found this incredibly moving. Your images are both striking and vulnerable–and that coupled with the message –is profound

A great poem!

A wonderfully rendered piece … in particular, the intertwining of seas and tides and spilled water and tears is very effective and well constructed. An important poem.

As much about climate as it is about a personal journey.. nicely done.

Every line speaks volumes. Oar-less boats are now in the turbulent sea awaiting That. The poem has a number of haunting visuals. A great write.

So long as there is still poetry, I think I can cope with other losses.
