The Flower Girls
At the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, I worried that the bees would think I was wearing a flower and try to land on me.
Sherry was hoping a monarch butterfly would land on her.
In the hydrangea garden, we ran into some other flower girls that we knew, my niece, her girlfriend and one of the wedding brides.
We saw Peter Rabbit’s jacket hanging in Mr. McGregor’s garden.
And checked out this outhouse replica turned tool shed.
There was a lily pond with yellow lilies and one with pink, but no koi fish.
I had fun sitting in the middle of this labyrinth.
While Sherry walked the stone reflexology maze. This picture was taken before we realized what it was and before she took her shoes off.
I’m not sure if this canoe was decorative or for real.
But there was plenty of water and a pier where kids could drop lobster pots for play.
I was crazy for the lavender.
This was one of Sherry’s favorite flower.
These ones made our eyes pop.
And this, I could have entered in the Marshfield Fair photo competition, which we went to a couple of days later.
In the sensory garden we couldn’t figure out why people were sticking their heads in the opening at the front of this stone sculptures until we read the plaque that explained it was a sound stone. The acoustics inside were booming.
There were lots of fairy houses and green nooks and crannies to explore.
Visiting botanical gardens is my kind of fun and a lovely way to spend a morning.

so luscious! it is a fav activity for us, too. we have a dahlia which looks like the one you photographed. it has been blooming every summer for many years, and I think it is one of the most beautiful dahlias in our gardens. great shot, colleen.

Oh you silly southern belles do not understand that up he-ah in New England we generally do not make distinction between “decorative” and “real” especially as regards rowboats, canoes, kayaks, etc.
Looks like you had a great day, though. I’ve been there before & always enjoy the visit!

But remember I am from MA! The lobster pots were toys but we saw some real ones later when we were in a real boat!
