We Have a Winner Here!
I grew up in amusement park town, so going to the Marshfield Fair while in my home state of Massachusetts was like a homecoming. I have so many memories of the Paragon Park of my childhood but it was closed and torn down in 1984.
One of my claim to fames is that in all the years of growing up near Paragon, I never went on the Roller Coaster. “You couldn’t pay me enough to go on that,” is still my common ride refrain.
Cotton Candy, screams from amusement park riders, bright flashing lights, a strong man hammer and bell strength tester and a “drown the clown” joker were all part of the classic scene.
Someone wanted to guess my age, but I didn’t want to draw attention to it. Some of the game barkers use recorded messages now. The big stuffed animal prizes are the same.
I call this “Nelson Goes Hunting.”
This one is “Sherry not riding the ferris wheel.” Neither of us like heights, speed or spinning.
But speaking of spinning, I was the only one who got up and danced to this band. Who can resist Space Cowboy by The Steve Miller Band?

Looks a lot busier than our county fair was this year. The rides usually only held one or two passengers. Love the photos!

You couldn’t pay me enough to go on any roller coaster, either!
I’m disappointed about the recorded barkers calls.

There’s nothing quite like an old-fasihoned farirground. They are such fun.
