Not-so-Grimm Tales at June Bug
-The following first appeared in The Floyd Press on September 21, 2017.
Laughter filled the June Bug Center over the weekend for the Floyd Community Theatre Guild’s (FCTG) production of The Not-so-Grimm Tales. Presented by eleven young actors, the play gives a modern twist to three Grimm Fairy Tales, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Cinderella.
“A princess doesn’t always need a prince to help her out with a situation. Sometimes it’s best to work together,” director Emily Gruver told the audience during her welcoming introduction.
Physical comedy was a highlight of the show and popular references included a comedic scene where Cinderella’s step sisters sing Beyonce’s Single Ladies (put a ring on it) to the Prince, and Snow White refers to her overbearing step-mother as “Mommy Dearest.”
The Not-so-Grimm Tales will return to the June Bug stage on Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23. at 7:00 pm and Sunday September 24 at 2:00 pm. FCTG will be presenting Scrooge The Musical from November 30 to December 2nd.
