Hanging by a Thread
Caught in a web
like a Nowhere Man
hanging in a nowhere land
An inchworm
twisting in the breeze
swings in mid-air
like a daredevil trapeze
Should we snatch it from its fate
Protect it from its fall
Relocate it to safety on the ground?
It made it to the tree top
inching its way without help
Suspended by a strand
that was also its lifeline
I swing in my hammock
watch it disappear from view
knowing adversity can lead to triumph
and every nowhere is somewhere
when we do what we were made to

“Every nowhere is somewhere
when we do what we’re made to…”
That’s a great lesson. It’s true. Great write!

To the bone, this.

I like the idea of nowhere being somewhere, IF (and it’s a big if sometimes), we do what we were made to do. The trick of course, is finding out what that is! 🙂

As long as there is a thread of hope the journey continues.

Such wisdom in your closing lines. I love the journey of the inchworm, so much like our own, one inch at a time. Love the hammock ponderings!

First I like how you used the Beatles’ quote to start with.. such hooks helps me a lot. I love the last stanza… it just shows how great ideas can be born from the smallest of things.

Slow and steady wins the race … and who knows that better than the inch worm? I love your hammock pontification!

I hope that simple strand is very strong & that the inchworm is able to hang on…..

Oh this was wonderful….I feel many days that I am swinging in the wind by that thread….but remembering it is my lifeline I too can climb to the top.

You are the spider in the hammock. Thanks for the interesting thoughts.

“…every nowhere is somewhere” when what is supposed to happen does.
I like that.

Love the opening of this poem. “Caught in a web / like a Nowhere Man / hanging in a nowhere land’. It captured me and invited me along for the ride.
