Problem Solved
I sit with a poem
like it was a crossword puzzle
finding the words
that work together
counting the letters
filling in blanks
building momentum
for the bigger picture
resisting the urge
to quit
I work on a poem
like it was a crossword puzzle
part hard struggle
part my kind of fun
erasing mistakes
crossing out false starts
thinking
outside the box

Ah, you have described the process of poem creation so well. It definitely forces one to think outside the box….if one is going to do it well.

sometimes it is a puzzle.. sometimes it is the solution.. got to love the poem as much as the process!

You are “telling it like it is.” A poem is like a puzzle.

I have always thought of poetry as puzzles too… maybe that’s what a form help me to do…

Process is a struggle, but an enjoyable one

Ah, this is the process indeed.
I love the way form suddenly finds itself as words and thoughts slip into place.
(I love cryptic crosswords!)

Your poem described some times when I am off to write a poem. So true. I like that about your piece!

Yup. That’s how it works! Great poem.

Oh yes, I often think making a poem is like doing a puzzle, or even cracking a code.

The urge to quit is a powerful urge. How do you resist it?
