Kaine and Northam in Floyd

As part of a ‘Barnstorm the Commonwealth,’ just over a week out from Election Day, Senator Tim Kaine and candidate for Governor Ralph Northam visited Floyd Saturday night, October 28th. Their first stop was The Floyd Country Store, where they met and mingled with citizens who were there for a Halloween Old Time Dance with the Whitetop Mountain Band.
Tim Kaine joined the band on stage, playing harmonica.
Veronica Santo took the opportunity to express her concerns about the Mountain Valley Pipeline displacing homeowners and threatening clean water. Northam responded that FERC’s (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) recent approval of the Pipeline was premature and that if elected he’ll have more options to consider.
Kaine and Northam stopped at another Halloween Party at Dogtown Roadhouse to meet and greet. Kaine posed with costumed Dogtown patrons, including these two couples, dressed as Red Riding Hood and the Wolf.
“He’s been a great Virginia Senator, is a great Lieutenant Governor and will make a great Governor,” Senator Kaine introduced Northam from the Dogtown Roadhouse stage. Northam spoke briefly about his roots in rural Virginia, saying that he wants to bring jobs, workforce development, education and healthcare to rural Virginia. He also shared that his college roommate from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is from Floyd. He wished the cheering crowd a “Happy Halloween” and said “It’s great to be back!”
