Let There Be Light
At the Piedmont Virginia Community College’s annual light installation show, we saw an electric flower garden.
The flowers in the “Nocturnal Garden, were made of paper, plastic bottles and foil. The exhibit was a collaboration of art and technology students at Murray High School, a charter school where they do project-based learning.
Believe it or not, not far from the lure of the garden was a witch in an oven. She gave away cookies to those who were brave enough to get close.
Our favorite exhibit was an interactive one that involved burning off layered images on a screen with flashlights. It was like painting with light.
A lot of people who walked the grounds, going from exhibit to exhibit wore lights around their bodies, which added to the festive feeling.
There was also and exhibit called “Gum Drops” that featured lit up frozen cubes of kool-aid poured out of a culvert pipe.
It was a well-attended, free to the public event where people warmed up inside and drank complimentary hot cocoa and cider. _______Shadow Shot Sunday
