13: Down to Earth
1. My 7-year old grandson Liam (who drew the above picture) thinks my last name should be Redma’am instead of Redman, since I’m not a man.
2. The Sun is the real Golden Globe.
3. “We no longer live in the blank white spaces at the edge of print. We no longer live in the gaps between the stories. We are the story in print, and we are writing the story ourselves.” – Elizabeth Moss to Margaret Atwood while accepting a Golden Globe award
4. Everyone’s rich / when the sun cashes in / when its pot of gold overflows / and its lucky star pays dividends – More from Paparazzi Sun HERE.
5. When my grandsons were over this weekend Bryce (9) made his own money by drawing a bill and copying it with my printer. I call the results: It Grows on Trees
6. He also made books, like THIS one.
7. Watching the Trump drama every day is like watching the OJ Simpson trial all over again and watching him get away with murder.
8. I posted the above on Facebook yesterday and one of my friends commented, “His hands are definitely small enough for the glove to fit. it’s just his mouth that is huge.”
9. I’m not big on celebrities for president, even Oprah. I’d rather have someone experienced in government, law and policy, someone like Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, who spoke at a round table in Floyd on Saturday and who I just wrote about for the paper. Kaine, who’s been a successful city councilman and mayor, lieutenant governor, governor and Senator, serves on the Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committee, went to a Jesuit boys high school, and has said, “We had a motto in my school: ‘Men for Others.’ And it was there that my faith became something vital. My north star for orienting my life. And when I left high school, I knew that I wanted to battle for social justice.” Kaine is a competent, humble person of integrity who got his start as a lawyer handling civil rights and fair-housing cases. He represented death row inmates and did missionary work in Honduras in 1980-81. With a degree in economies, as Governor he cut $5 billion in spending. He frequently works in a bipartisan way.
10. It’s bad enough that we have a plastic garbage island bigger than Texas floating in the Pacific, but we also have almost 30,000 man-made satellites and objects orbiting Earth like litter. I recently saw THIS Smithsonian rendition of our space junk and felt sick.
11. Are You Some Body? See HERE.
12. On writing poetry: It’s so hard to crack that nut but I always carry a hammer just in case.
13. “When the axe came into the forest, the trees said the handle is one of us.” – Alice Walker

Wow! #11 is something that is deep and makes you think! I like the picture of Earth that Liam drew! Another thing that is deep and makes you think.

I like Liam’s earth picture better than the Smithsonian one. 🙁 That latter one is sad.
My problem with the thing with Oprah was how quickly the media worked to dispel her message with their “running for president” BS. We should have been talking about her message, and that was instead completely lost. She said important things, things that need to be discussed, and nothing was discussed at all.
