Moving Day
Today I’m moving words
that have become
part of the furniture
I’m cutting the clutter
and repairing the wear
I’m taking junk to the dump
and rearranging the mood
I’m putting the elephant
in the middle of the room

cutting the clutter and repairing the wear ….
oh, that is such a wonderful line ….
it feels good to sort and shift – even words – especially words that no longer serve purpose …
have a wonderful weekend 🙂

Sometimes it is better to put that elephant right in the middle of the room and deal with it head on!! Good message here.

I love this poem, Colleen! Decluttering poetry is something we all need to do occasionally.

The best place for him for there will be no whispering behind your back anymore. What a great piece of writing and a chortle to go with it.

You have a lot on your plate. You’ve chosen mammoth tasks to occupy your time here

Oh, well done! What brilliant idea, to have a housekeeping of words. And yes, unwise to keep ignoring the elephant. I enjoyed the wit and verve of this.

Fabulous poem.

I have questions: Is the room big enough to hold the elephant? Will you have to enlarge the room, or will you need to shrink the elephant?

Very cool idea, to de-clutter the words and move things around!

I think we need to bring the elephant in… (and without clutter there are no excuse to not bring it up)

Just reading this makes my spirit feel lighter. It speaks of decluttering physically and emotionally, but also of paring down poems, which I’m a huge fan of. Tiny poems can say so much more … or rather, they make it easier to hear one impactful message, I think.
On a personal note, I’m very attached to elephants … from childhood on, of course. My daddy died when I was 2, but I do remember having a stuffed purple elephant from him. It’s my only memory of my bio dad. So I like reading this poem as if it’s about getting rid of everything but that memory — the one that makes me feel close to him, as a toddler in my heart.

I like this! I like poetry that has been delivered and not til of useless gobbledygook.

I chuckled at that last line. Beware to those who preferred not seeing that elephant amidst such nice organization.

Such a smart poem. I really like it!
