Floyd Keeps on Rockin’ in the Free World
Did they have a Neil Young Tribute just so they could write “Tonight’s the Night” on a poster?
Actually, the concert was called “Heart of Gold” and took place Friday night at Dogtown Roadhouse to benefit SustainFloyd, a local environmental group focused on sustainable local economy.
The local musicians that came together for the event were named “Buffalo Springfloyd” (a twist on Young’s early band, Buffalo Springfield) and “Lazy Horse” (a take-off on his later band, Crazy Horse).
I was sure when our friend Lanny got up on stage with a broom that they were going to do “A Man Needs a Maid,” but it was Harvest Moon and Lanny played some harmonica after sweeping.
Musician Brad Collier called out my friend Bill for for the best Neil Young look-alike award. I’ve been telling Bill that for years.
I thought they would close with “It’s Over,” (Birds) which they did sing near the end but, even better, they ended on a high note, getting the crowd roused up with a “Rockin’ the Free World” sing-along.
Now that the bands are formed, I think they could do second tribute, There are so many Neil Young songs I still want to hear and dance to.
