The Unwritten Dream
I left the dream
to finish the poem
Now the dream has dissolved
like a memory that was stolen
like a lesson that wasn’t learned
like a life returned to dust

A dissolving dream and a life returned to dust…….this poem has impact. Well done!

This happens to me often, it seems, with poetry. The dream does often does dissolve. Sigh.

I love the title! Yes often it is that dreams escape even though they seem close and within our reach.

Oh yes you captured it perfectly when those fleeting thoughts and dreams whisper and then evaporate before we can catch them….loved it!

We grasp at other things and our dreams dissolve. I’m too familiar with this. Great way to express this melancholia.

I know this, and how exasperating it is! A dream dissolved in the blink of an eye…

That was sad yet uplifting for both dreams and poetry.

This snuck up on me. The idea of leaving a dream behind…ouch. Also, it kicked off a dozen memories of home for some reason. 🙂 Beautifully done.

What a great example to ensure we are not distracted when we have a great idea we need to write down. Then when forgotten you have a feeling of grief that the child you thought you had will never be born.

Colleen, it happens to me all the time too. Sometimes the dream lingers all day just beyond my fingertips with just a sense of the emotion associated with it, but nothing I can latch onto. You captured it well.

Darn. I guess it was either lose the poem or lose the dream. The lesson may rear its head again.

Brilliant title and I love your closing line. A most enjoyable poem to read

if only we can write in our sleep…

I like the way the poem seems to dissolve with the dream, Colleen.

Indeed, some dreams and wishes are lost unfulfilled.

Sad …and yet, I do believe the dreams and the poems are all still there in our subconscious, to surface perhaps in new guises albeit the same message.

I pick up a sense of frustration here…
