The 13 Check List
1. Yesterday, I spent the day with a cardinal named Clark Gable.
2. You know I’ve been staying home too long when I start naming the birds at the feeder. I’ve been calling the finches “the golden girls” even though I know the yellow ones are males.
3. I should be relearning my French for when we travel to Europe this summer. Instead I’m boning up on the language of birds.
4. Tom Rush and I are kindred spirits. Here’s what Tom said in his latest newsletter about making “to do lists” – “My new, improved system is to do whatever I feel like, then put it on a list and check it off.”
5. The strangest painting ever HERE.
6. After I wrote about hanging out with Clark Gable, my sister asked if the female was Scarlet O’Hara.
7. Honeymoon pink / Spring popped the question / Consummated the engagement / for the promise of fruit. More HERE.
8. I keep wanting to say that Trump has lost all credibility but I don’t think he had any in the first place.
9. Just when I gave up getting a picture of Clark Gable and Scarlet O’Hara together, a pair of grosbeaks paid a visit. I guess I can check the ruby breasted grosbeak off my list. I had never seen one before and it was very exciting!
10. In 2014 I saw THIS bird for the first time. A few years before indigo buntings paid a visit. I haven’t seen them since and THIS is the only picture I got.
11. Checklist or Playlist?
12. Checklist or “you’d never guess list?”
13. And sometimes THIS happens.

#9 and 10! Lucky you! I miss the cardinals so much out here. Imagine living in a place where there are no red birds! In the past, the cardinals nested near the creek at the back of the Atlanta property, and the day they came to the feeder with their new babies, as if to show them off to me, was always such a thrill! The first fledglings they brought taught me that all cardinal babies are colored like a female cardinal for a while. The males grow into their brilliant red feathers as they age.

We had a young male cardinal that was red with a black tail. I hope you at least have some blue birds where you are, Sky! By the way, I learned that grosbeaks are in the cardinal family.

Birds are finally coming back here, too. YAY!
That 3-D painting is a total mindblower. Shared on FB.
I’m coming back to T-13 next week for sure. April totally did me in.

That was a really cool painting. Thanks for sharing that. I hope you’re recovering well. I love to watch the birds, too, and would like a feeder outside my window, but the bears knocked it over in the past so I gave up.

yep, I love those photos of the grosbeaks…we get pine grosbeaks mostly, in batches, but not regularly. something to do with the temps, I think…
we almost have cardinals here, they rocket by every spring and wave at us on their way to lord only knows where
And I do like that kind of check list. Shows so much more progress, that way…and oh that painting, that blows me away
