Prolificacy
Are poems like eggs?
Do I only have so many?
Am I born with all the poems
I’ll ever write inside me?
While new ideas swirl
like a million unborn secrets
Conceived but not delivered
they tease but don’t get written

the ones that get written are the lucky ones

What a creative thought!! Made me smile this morning.
(Sigh – I think I am running out of poems.)

Aw…Bless the written ones 🙂

Thankfully the ideas keep coming! Smiles.

This was a thought… and I love how you formulated it as a question… the world needs questions more than answers

Now I can’t stop thinking about egg-poems get fertilized… and then birthed.

That is such a deep and intriguing thought! ?

Are all the poems inside me…..like this and the reference to eggs, each poem being fragile in its birth

At 71 It’s happening. I’m leaving my “stuff” to my children while I go fishin’ : )

Ooo! What a comparison! We can’t have all the possible children either, I think.

Thank goodness I’m not the only one. I’m constantly buffeted by unwritten poems. I love how you put this into words.

Ideas are like weeds in my brain’s garden they spring up anywhere.
June 11th, 2018 4:43 am
I think so…at some point I won’t have any more words.. that’s a scary thought…
June 11th, 2018 8:23 am
Very interesting concept!! Maybe….

You KNOW I love anything Egg-ish, CR. Whether it’s EGGS OVER TOKYO or SCRAMBLED, NOT FRIED, it’s my favorite. And now, thanks to THIS lovely poem, I am even more deeply enamored. Well done.
More and more frequently, these days, I think I may have written my last. Scares the crap out of me.
June 11th, 2018 10:10 am
Hmmm, interesting speculations. (I think we can always find more within us.)
June 12th, 2018 12:07 pm
Fantastic and surprisingly-apt metaphor! You ask an intriguing question.

there will always be words – unlike eggs –
the supply is unlimited, the combinations extraordinary – it’s just whether you will have the desire or need to birth another …

Interesting thought. Thank goodness words are not like ova. I had my eggs cleared out years ago due to cancer. Glad they didn’t take my brain.

What a creative write this is Colleen! There will always be those ones that do not get written. That makes the ones that do so precious!
