The Last Word
My poet friend in India
heard the wind confessing
but here in America
I heard it complain
It stirred like a conscience
warning of consequences
when winners against losers
are the rule of law
From hush to bluster
in the simmer of summer
the wind gave voice
to voiceless children
helpless hostages held
to stop the crossing
of a line
You crossed a line
the wind protested
reduced the earth
to real estate for sale
But in the end
the wind insisted
none are expendable
and each of us is answerable
Because we’re all migrants
of the world we belong to
and our blood lines are traced
to a shared source
Because love is louder
than the rule of power
Because nature
has the last word

May it be so… may we find way of caring in ways that works…

You expressed it perfectly. Beautiful!

So true about Nature having the last laugh! 😉

beautiful and true

YES! This makes me want to stand up and cheer, to march, to scoop up those crying children. The winds of change WILL blow. We have seen the ugliness of this particular deck of cards. We will blow them down and rebuild what we had begun. An awesome write!

Bravo! Yes, we are all migrant children. And thinking of the wind – the wind knows NO borders, and I would like to imagine (in my wildest dreams) that it would be possible to live in a borderless world. Love IS louder than the rule of power, but somehow we have to stand up to this power and claim the power of love back! Excellent and timely poem.

Excellent thought Mary. That could be a good title for this poem: The Wind Has No Borders.

I can only hope that I live long enough to see love triumph over the current evil power that occupies the White House.

Such a powerful write that expresses the TRUTH beautifully especially those last lines!!

Just the lift needed from the news. Truth and hope at once!
June 24th, 2018 4:16 pm
Sigh.. may it be so. May we find a way to help put an end to horrors taking place in the world 🙁

A powerful & timely write Colleen of the purest truth.
Oh that the wind could change who we are, who some of us have become. Nature does indeed have the last word.
May she speak in all of us.

Am so glad that the same wind keeps blowing in all corners of the world, reminding us of the basic rules of nature- love and compassion and respect for all. We need those global winds of change!

Nature will have the last word but not without our inability to accept that migrants are fearful for the future of themselves and their children and are asking for help not punishment as well.

Powerful metaphior and powerful poem!

Yes, love is more powerful. I ache that so many seem to have no heart.

This is powerful and beautifully written. May I share it on my blog? I have been writing about this and would like to show different voices on the same subject.
Blessings! Rev. Linda

This is a topic which must be written of again and again.. The winds of change are blowing.

We need more people in this world believing in that – nature has the last word. Imagined boundaries cannot stop it.

I’m thinking that nature will put us in our place and how Bob Dylan’s Blowin in the Wind is back….How many years will it take…?

Back for another read. A very empowering poem. We are all migrant children indeed and when natural disasters strike, the man-made lines on the earth dont matter at all. The cries of those children has lived in my heart all week. When will this insanity end?

I love the conversational tone of this poem, the connection between the speaker and her friend, the power of Nature, the promises that grow stronger from line to line. I especially love the last stanza. And want it to be wholly true… now.

True and beautiful Colleen!!

Those winds of change that know no borders. I hope they will blow the hate and selfishness from this land.

Bob Dyan wrote his song so long ago …… The answers are Blowin in the wind!!
Why are we going backwards?
Very feeling poem and so needed at this time. It should be published in one of your papers.
