Cheerleaders
Crepe-myrtle
is summer’s answer
to lilacs in the spring
Happy girls bouncing
with berry-red pom poms
shaking in the breeze
while ironweed purple
and goldenrod yellow
in September school colors
play the field

The rainbow of colors in this poem delights me. I especially like the reference to the purple ironweed, a blossom I haven’t seen since I left the hills of eastern Kentucky many years ago. Good memories! Thank you, Colleen.

Really enjoyed this. Each season has its special display of colors. Right now I am enjoying the bright colors of mums in pots on my porch. Smiles.

How lovely to see them bobbing their heads jumping in the breeze. The colors add to the fascination!
