Garden Poetry
I was invited to a Sunday afternoon poetry reading under the gazebo at the Hahn Horticulture Garden in Blacksburg.
By way of introduction and because I saw several familiar faces in the audience from my days working at my friend’s Blacksburg bead shop throughout the ‘90s, I began my reading with a poem that I once taped to the bead shop cash register: Poet Cashier – It’s all I can do / not to / say “Buckle my Shoe” / after “One, two” / when I’m counting out the money.
I was impressed with the quality and variety of poetry that was read.
There were poems about trees, cancer treatment, walking the dog, the hunchback Quasimodo and more.
One of the perks of reading poetry at the gardens was this.
Part of Virginia Tech, the gardens include gazebos, sculptures, winding pathways, exotic and naturalized plants, and even a lily pad pond with koi fish.
After the reading, I took time to smell the flowers. Check out Joe’s and my visit to the Hahn Garden last year HERE. / Our World Tuesday

Congratulations on being invited to read your poetry – an honor, I am sure. And what a lovely setting for a reading. Good job taking the time to ‘smell the roses’, and then for sharing them with us!
